SLAV Sporting is the brainchild of Edward Donald, who lived in the Czech Republic for four years in the early nineteen nineties and has fly fished and shot in the Central Europe and Central Asia regions over the last twenty years. He speaks fluent Czech, French, German and Dutch as well as some Russian. He leads a fixed number of groups each year and works with local guides who have the expertise and language skills to accompany individuals and groups from abroad.

Slav Sporting chooses destinations where hunting and fishing traditions are strong and flourishing. We use local lodges and the skills of resident gamekeepers and guides, many of whom are known personally to Edward and who speak some English. We select the best of what we know and recommend only that.

We believe visiting fly fishers and guns have an important role to play in supporting some of the communities we visit to ensure continuity of traditions from one generation the next. As an extension of this philosophy, we advocate a catch and release policy for all fishers: the use of barbless hooks is, in many cases, obligatory on many of the waters we fish. We work with revirs (estates) that have nationally audited game management plans in place and recognise the need to plan game populations with long term balance in mind.

Due to the unusual and often hard to reach destinations we offer, each holiday is tailored according to the specific requirements of each guest or group. This enables us to confidently offer something for the experienced just as much as for the individual or group taking their sport abroad for the first time.
